Refund policy
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, all UK consumers are entitled to a cooling off period of 14 days from the date of delivery in which they can change their mind. If you would like to return an item please notify us and then return the item within 14 days. The return postage costs are the responsibility of the buyer, and will not be refunded in this instance. Refunds will be issued by the same method as payment was received. We reserve the right to deduct the initial cost of the postage to send the part to you from the refund amount, regardless of the postage you actually paid, as this does not always reflect the true cost to us. Items must be returned in original packaging unmodified.
If the ECU has been fitted to a vehicle, a full test has to be carried out after receiving it back. This is to guarantee that a faulty vehicle hasn’t damaged it, for this reason a deduction will be applied to the refund to cover the cost of testing. The testing fee is variable depending on the ECU type, however the cost will not exceed £165 + VAT. Further deductions will be made at our discretion if damage has been caused to the ECU.
Non-Refundable Fees: For refunds processed due to customer-initiated cancellations (e.g., change of mind, incorrect item ordered), the original payment processing fee (approx. 5% of the total order value) is non-refundable. This fee is charged by the bank/payment merchant and is not returned to us upon cancellation.
ECU unlock/decodes services are non refundable.
ECU's which have sustained water damage of any kind will not be eligible for refund nor will the warranty remain valid.
LOCKED ECUs variants have no warranty and are non refundable
Downloads are non refundable.
Any international sales are final, hence there is no cooling time period, or return will be accepted.
ECU Replacement – Cloning & Warranty Terms
When an ECU (Engine Control Unit) replacement is carried out using a cloning process (data transfer from the original unit), the warranty provided covers hardware only. The software and data on the replacement ECU are direct copies of the original unit and are not altered, tested, or verified by us. In many cases, this software includes encrypted or proprietary data that cannot be diagnosed or validated for integrity or function.
It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure that the original issue is related to a hardware fault and not software corruption or malfunction, prior to requesting or installing a cloned ECU. Any issues arising from cloned data—such as immobiliser problems, VIN mismatches, coding errors, or other software-related faults—are not covered under our warranty.
By proceeding with a cloned ECU replacement, the buyer accepts that:
- The software and configuration remain unverified;
- Faults due to original data corruption are not the responsibility of the seller;
- Diagnosis of vehicle compatibility and functionality is the buyer’s responsibility.
If you are unsure whether your fault is software or hardware related, we strongly recommend a full diagnostic by a qualified technician prior to ordering.
Disclaimer of Liability for Third-Party Costs
We supply vehicle parts strictly on the basis that the customer or their chosen installer is responsible for the correct fitting and diagnosis. We do not accept liability for any costs beyond the original purchase price of the part supplied. This includes, but is not limited to, labour charges, diagnostic fees, third-party parts, towing or recovery costs, vehicle hire, loss of use, or any other out-of-pocket expenses incurred as a result of the installation or use of our products. We strongly recommend that parts are fitted by qualified professionals and that full diagnosis is carried out before replacement. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
ECU Programming and Plug & Play Disclaimer
While we take every care to ensure that replacement ECUs supplied by Cartech Electronics are prepared to be Plug & Play wherever possible, customers should be aware that in certain cases, additional programming, coding, or synchronisation may be required. This is particularly the case where faults in the original ECU, vehicle immobiliser system, or other related electronic components prevent full automatic integration.
“Plug & Play” refers to the preparation work carried out by Cartech Electronics to ensure compatibility with the customer’s vehicle, based on the data provided at the time of purchase. However, due to the complex nature of automotive electronic systems, it is not always possible to guarantee that no further programming will be necessaryto achieve full functionality.
Any additional programming, synchronisation, or dealer-level diagnostic work required after installation is the responsibility of the buyer, including any associated costs or labour charges. Cartech Electronics will not be held liable for these additional costs.
By purchasing an ECU from Cartech Electronics, the buyer acknowledges and accepts this condition.
